First Day Of School

Well, it is finally here! My little baby went off to school for the first time ever on Tuesday. We have been going over to the classroom to help get it set up for a week or so now. Grace was able to play with some of her classmates and become comfortable in her surroundings and with her new teacher, Ms. Jenni.

The theme for the first day of school was, "All about me - Hollywood style!" Each child was supposed to dress in full costume to walk down the red carpet and gain admittance to the classroom with their special ticket. Grace was very excited all morning long. She dressed in her Spanish Senorita dress and wanted to wear her hot pink sunglasses with it.

When we arrived at school, she jumped out of the truck and took off running for the front door. 2 of her classmates, Ava and Gracie (dressed as princesses) came out to greet her. She was so excited!

Grace watched as the other children went into the classroom - and she figured out quickly that the parents weren't going in. She stopped several feet from Ms. Jenni and the doorway and didn't budge.
I think she began to realize that I wasn't going into the classroom with her. I decided to go sit near Ms. Jenni by the classroom doorway, hoping she would come closer. My little apprehensive child still didn't budge. I started crying. I mean, not like I was sobbing making crazy sounds, but just tears falling from my eyes. I decided to walk away, rather than let her see me upset. Ms. Jenni went to her, and talked Grace into going into the classroom - but only if she could hold my hand. I sucked in a deep breath and went to help her cross the threshold.

She looked at me and said, "Aren't you coming in?" I explained that preschool was like ballet school...I drop her off, but I always come back for her. She then said, "You're LEAVING me???" I just started crying all over again! I kissed her and took off. She was crying, but within a minute she was fine. Ms. Jenni said she did very well from that point on.

I didn't get many photos, but some friends did - so when they send them to me, I'll post them!
